A new Valentine tradition: family mailboxes
I started a new Valentine tradition this year — family mailboxes. It started with a trip to the Target Dollar Spot, where I picked up four mini mailboxes and all kinds of Valentine stickers, jewels and scrapbook paper.
This weekend I surprised the family when I set out pancakes and all the supplies for each of us to decorate our own mailboxes. I have to admit, I had as much fun (if not more) as the kids decorating my own mailbox.
Since then, we’ve been leaving little notes for each other, flipping up the mailbox flag, and enjoying our mail. I like to use the notes to tell my husband and kids what I’m thankful for – things they’ve said or done, or just to notice something positive about them. It feels wonderful to leave the notes, and the kids have been thrilled to receive them. They’re also proud of the notes they write, and love dumping them all out and reading through them.
Here’s a sweet note my daughter wrote to me.
A happy crafty morning..
I put all the Valentine note supplies at the kids’ “work table” so it’s easy to jot off a note whenever anyone feels like it.
Does your family have any Valentine traditions you’d like to share?
