Biodegradable Paper Plates

Paper plates are a little bit of a guilty pleasure. Generally I do try to minimize my landfill contributions, but there are times when I just want to bust out the paper products and skip the dishes.

SO, I was happy when Hefty (smart marketers that they are) contacted me and asked me to try their new Hefty Basics paper plates, which are biodegradable and can be home composed. (I really need to get on that home composing. I was flipping through this month’s Martha Stewart magazine at the dentist a few days ago, and saw she has a Composting 101 page on her website.)

These plates have no inks, dyes or coatings, and basically are a very thin, natural brown-looking paper plate. They’re so thin, you really have to check to make sure you aren’t serving two or three stuck together, which would kind of defeat the purpose, right? Even though they’re thin, they are nice and sturdy.

Would anyone like to try some of these Hefty Basics? Here’s what they look like on the store shelf (and if you’d like three coupons, each good for one package of any size Hefty Basics plates, click over to the FFFM Giveaway page.)

Also, Hefty has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, and for every 10 “likes” they get on their Facebook page, they will plant a tree through the Arbor Day Foundation.
