2009 Earth Week Giveaway #3: Glass Straws – Now Closed

The third giveaway this week is a $35 gift certificate to spend on anything you like at Glass Dharma. Chances are, you’ll go for a set of glass straws, and maybe a straw cleaning brush or straw cozy to tote your straw around in. Because how cool would it be to whip out your reusable straw and tell the story of how you won it in an Earth Week giveaway on Fun Finds For Mom, right?
The Glass Dharma site nicely sums up the benefits of their straws:
- Glass straws don’t leach toxins into your food as you drink.
- Each time you use your glass straw equals one less plastic straw ending up in your landfill.
- One glass straw replaces thousands of plastic straws. (How many times will you use a straw the rest of your life?)
- Using your glass drinking straw adds a feeling of beauty to your day.
If you’re worried about them breaking, you’ll be happy to know that Glass Dharma’s straws are made with the strongest glass commercially available (borosilicate glass in fact, which is “the same as your glass coffee pot or pyrex pie plate”) and come with a lifetime warranty against breakage.
To enter, just leave a comment on this post by midnight MST on Friday, April 24. Anonymous comments won’t count. The winner will be randomly chosen and announced on April 27. If I don’t hear back from the winner by April 30, another winner will be chosen. One entry per person please. Thanks and good luck!
Remember, all Earth Week giveaways are open until Friday, so be sure to enter the others too!
– If you don’t win the Glass Dharma gift certificate here, David Leonhardt, the company’s owner, is so passionate about his straws, he’s giving away free straws here for the entire month of April (he pays for the $7 straw, you pay for the $3 shipping).
Happy Earth Day!

i’m in for trying these out as well!
I”ve been wanting to try these to get rid of regular straws. I have to have straws
How fun, I have never heard of these before but they seem like a great idea!
What a simple idea! Plastic straws do seem sooo wasteful. Glass straws are probably dishwasher friendly too.
Awesome! I like providing straws with icy drinks, so a set of these would be terrific!
I have been ogling these for a LONG time. I’m leery of the glass though, as I have a bit of a tendency to break things… have you seen the stainless steel spoon/straws on amazon?
wow, the “finds” just keep getting better!!!
)
i remember using glass straws when i was in the first grade in the hospital – now that was 50 years ago!! OH MY GOSH!! anyway ! i think these would be very fun to use…and NOT be in the hospital! :^) thanks for the chance to win a gift certificate to the glass dharma site.
These are awesome! They will also free up space in my kitchen drawers!
Been looking for these ever since I first saw them on Ideal Bite. I’d love a set!
Probably much better for the environment that the plastic bunny straws the Easter bunny brought the kids!
We LOVE straws with our smoothies…I’ve never tried a glass straw, but that sounds wonderful!
What a great gift idea! Will be getting some of these!
Soooo cool! I’ve been looking for some nifty (non-plastic) reusable straws because I started making smoothies to go from home – to cut down on the $4 & styrofoam cup I’d go through each trip to Jamba Juice.
I use straws all the time, so a set of your glass straws would help me be more earth-friendly.
Thanks for this opportunity!
funny enough, my requested reusable straws as her birthday present!
Are they really break proof? My 3 year old can destroy almost anything! If so seems like a great product.
What a cool idea! My son loves to see his drink make its way up the straw, these would make it a lot easier…for me as well!
These are beautiful!
After reading description of type glass the straws are made from, I assume I can use them with my hot drinks as well. How cool, as well as saving our precious environment and kitchen drawer space.
I love my straws, and try to reuse them but still go through 4-6 a week. I never use a disposable glass, why should i use a disposable straw? Thanks!
awesome idea
I use straws for any sweet drink since I get cavities easily. These would be perfect to keep me from using up a zillion plastic ones!
What a great idea! Sure beats throwing away all those non-break-downable-plastic ones!!
I just saw the stainless steel straws on Oprah’s program on Earth Day!! I KNOW the plastic is bad for the environment but I hadn’t THOUGHT there were options!
Thanks much!!
Using glass straws for warm/cold drink won’t stain teeth. And what a better choice for our Earth!
I love this idea!! Let’s all do what we can to save the earth for our children and for ourselves!!
I want to try these!
I saw the stainless steel ones on Oprah. I like the whole thing with the glass ones. The straw, the brush, the super cute cozies.
I like the idea of the glass straws more than stainless steel. They are clear so you can visbly tell whether they are clean or not and I am just a little hesitant to stick a metal in my mouth in fear of reaction with my fillings.
I have been using the Acrylic straws now for over 2 years. Broke my last one!! Would love to try the glass straw.
I think it is a great idea!! My girls also take straw after straw for the smallest amount of liquid. i stopped purchasing them a while back and they do ask for them, but i refuse; espeically the ones that are individually wrapped!!! Glass straws seem like a great alternative.
those sound so awesome! I drink two our three fast food sodas with a straw each day!
These look awsome and my kids go through straws like crazy…(i love straws myself) I would love to try these!!!
This is genius!
These are a great idea! Very green
