Good old metal lunchbox and thermos
Remember the metal lunchbox and thermos we used to bring our lunches and drinks to school in? I am very close to ordering one of these plain metal lunchboxes for my son. I like the fact that it’s not obnoxious and plastic, and I could probably wash out PBJ remnants pretty easily. My friend Erika just asked me the other day what she should use to pack milk in her daughter’s lunchbox. I struggled with the same question last year, before giving in to peer pressure and packing juiceboxes for my son. I didn’t want to use plastic, but I only use water in the Sigg, since it has to be washed by hand and I don’t want it to get grungy. I don’t know what the care instructions are on this Thermos, but for the price, I think it’s worth taking a look to see if it would work for toting milk.
Also, a few days after seriously eyeing these metal lunchboxes on Lunchbox.com, I came across the great photos of a Candyland birthday party on the Hostess Blog. They used similar (or maybe the same) lunchboxes as personalized party favors. Here’s a pic:

You can order these for $36 each (yowza) at Em Tanner Designs, but I’m thinking it would be a fun project for the kids to decorate their own personalized lunchboxes with labels or stickers.
$9.25 at Lunchboxes.com
