Lusting after Earthlust Stainless Steel Bottles

The other night at a preschool committee meeting, we went around the room and told everyone something they probably didn’t know about us. I told the group about Fun Finds For Mom, which I really do need to promote more among my preschool friends. Lucky for me, my new friend Laura jotted down the website, and has since sent me several good tips on some finds you’ll be enjoying soon.

One of her tips was that I should check out GetN’Green, a website run by her friends in Montana, a very cute looking couple dedicated to natural living and doing their part to preserve the earth for their two young sons. GetN’Green carries a great selection of BPA-free baby bottles, sippy cups, and stainless steel and aluminum water bottles. They also have some interesting earth-friendly gifts like bottle openers made from bike chains and stationery made from elephant dung.

But what really got my attention were these Earthlust stainless steel bottles. Aren’t they beautiful? I haven’t tried them for myself, but I read a great online review that compared the Earthlust bottles to Siggs and Klean Kanteens, and I’m thinking I could shave a good minute or two off my crazy last minute morning bottle preparations if I had Earthlust bottles instead of Siggs. Why? Because every morning I fill a big mug of ice from the ice dispenser, then I have to fill the mug with water to melt down the ice pieces so that they’ll fit in the skinny neck of the kids’ Siggs. Plus, they sell a sport top for the Earthlusts that opens up and down, instead of the side twist on the Sigg top that is sometimes hard for little kids to maneuver.

They come in 13 oz, 20 oz and 33 oz sizes (regularly $16, $18, $21 - but currently on sale) at GetN’Green

I also like the aluminum water bottles and my kids got them as back-to-school gifts from their aunt. However the skinny necks drove me crazy trying to get crushed ice into them. More ice ended up in the sink and on the floor than in the bottle. I found some skinny ice cube trays at my neighborhood Safeway that saved the day. I guess they are actually “ice-rectangle” trays. I don’t know if they still have them since it was in the “back-to-school” section and now it is apparently Christmas season at my Safeway. (Can’t we enjoy the current holiday before having to skip ahead two holidays and feel behind before it even starts?!) I’d look in the lunch box section for these handy ice trays.

Thank you so much for the “ice tube” tip. I love it! Here’s a link to one of these trays: http://www.swissbottle.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=6999.00

They’re on sale for $4.99. And I think it would be kind of fun to use these ice sticks in regular glasses too!
