I received my PB corner desk unit and love it. We installed an adjustable keyboard tray. It was a unit we already had on another built-in desk, and it was purchased by our builder. I don't know where they got it, but it's called "Comfort Plus, MP Series". It is 25" wide, which is wider than the front edge of the corner unit, but fits easily and slides in and out with no issues. With this width, there is room for both keyboard and mouse.
Thanks to this blog, I am planning to return the acrylic desk protectors and order custom glass from a nearby glass company. We were very unhappy with the quality of the acrylic! With the corner hutch weighted in the back, it causes the front of the acrylic to lip up, and catches on things. It also doesn't stay in place very well. Interestingly, we will save $156 on the glass versus acrylic, with a much stronger product. I let PB know that I was dissatisfied, and they offered to reduce by 20% or let me return it. We've only had the desk for 2 weeks, and I LOVE the quality of the furniture, but was not happy with the acrylic.

[...] My research started today with some of my favorites furniture companies- Lexington and Ballards Design. Neither had exactly what I desired. I finally found exactly what I was looking for in the Pottery Barn Catalog. It is the Bedford Collection: a modular home office system. To create the look I desire, I want two connecting desk components. I priced the Bedford Collection and as luck would have it, the total cost is way above my budget of$1500. Obviously, I will lose the bet, and definitely not met my expectations as Mommy Saveologist! So, I just spent a half hour before Katie’s feeding researching and organizing a solution. I started with Ebay… I found some components of the Bedford collection, however nothing that was an exact match. Then I goggled “save on Bedford Potterybarn Collection”… and I learned researching does pay off: this is what popped up…http://www.funfindsformom.com/blog/my-new-desk.
I have several pieces of the PB Bedford collection. I have had it for several years and I am very satisfied.
My question is, does anyone have any recommendations on adding a keyboard drawer to the corner unit? I am using my desk much more than I used to and it is not the most ergonomic set up?
Thanks for all the great tips. I never thought to check JCP for office furniture.
Here is a tip a can offer. I admired the wooden chairs that PB showed with the Bedford Collection but I couldn't justify something I knew would be more for looks than comfort. I checked out a few local antique stores and found on for $50. I refinished it and it looks great. I even replaced to seat cushion and recovered it to match the office. A great find.

I just happened on your blog while research the PB Bedford I just purchase off of Craig's List for $150! That's right, only $150! I have been lusting after this desk for about 4 years and didn't want to pull the trigger. However, I couldn't resist the great deal on my favorite shopping spot, Craig's List.

The JCP desk is nice, but, have to say that it must be pretty impressive in person, because in my opinion, the pics do not compare to the PB desk. But, I'm glad it works for you!

Hi,

I just received my PB Bedford Desk and it is great! It's a great size and is spacious without being behemoth. I got the corner desk, which is a great use of space, especially if you use it with a computer/keyboard. One piece of advice that is helpful is that it is possible to buy the corner hutch in pieces- you can't do it online but if you go into a store they will sell you only the center part of the hutch. This is great because it gets your computer monitor elevated and makes use of wasted space, without taking up all the room on the side pieces of the desk.

Also, I highly recommend skipping the acrylic $300+ PB desk protector and instead have a local glass company cut you 1/4" glass. I did just that, and it cost me $270 to get custom cut glass that is much nicer and will last way longer. Without a glass protector the desk will show every fingerprint and smudge, and the wood top is not necessarily the highest quality. Glass on top will protect the desk and make it last longer (not to mention you don't have to worry about eating at the desk or spilling things on it).

Overall, I am very pleased with the desk!

I found this info comparing PB Bedford to JC Penney very helpful. I did notice, PB does not seem to have a keyboard return whereas JCP does offer it. Am I missing something? It seems the JCP is the better option on the whole. Kathy

I have a home office that includes three corner desks, a lateral file, regular-sized desk and a small desk all in the Pottery Barn Bedford Collection. I chose black. I got one corner desk and the small desk from two different sellers on Craigslist.com. The rest of the items I purchased out of box at my local Pottery Barn. "Out of box," "scratch and dent," sale, discontinued & used are great ways to cut costs, have what you want and the resale on them are better, too, because you have that brand name to advertise with. I have found the quality to be excellent, I was given a touch-up paint pen and I haven't needed it yet. I also like the fact that I can purchase accessories from PB to accessorize.

I'm just seeing this great post. I've also been thinking of getting the Pottery Barn desk for a while and just saw the JCP desk. My only concern is if it will be big enough. It's quite a bit smaller than the PB desk. I don't want to feel like I'm sitting at a little girl's desk. What do you think of the size? -- Especially the sitting space? Also, are you still pleased with yours two years later?

Thanks in advance!

Did anyone purchase the JC Penney and have a problem with a chemical smell? We recieved our desk last week and the desk has a very strong chemical smell. We have been letting it air out but it doens't seem to be getting any better. Am I the only one with this issue?

Thank you.

My wife and I (foolishly) bought the PB desk. It came with 2 pieces damaged. We contacted PB support and they rapidly replaced it. Next one showed up damaged. They offered me a replacement in-store, and promised to have a local person in the store inspect the unit. The replacement was there. Got home, it was damaged too (different piece this time). This is now our fourth try, fingers are still crossed.

That said, the parts that are here are very nice looking. But my advice right now would be to avoid this unit.
