Pottery Barn Kids or JCPenney?

Twin Quilts

I have always been a devoted Pottery Barn Kids customer, especially when it comes to kids bedding. I must admit, I never thought I’d see something on the JCPenney website looking so much like a Pottery Barn Kids quilt and sham set. So can you guess which image is from JCPenney? The one on the left! And the price for JCP’s Poppy Twin Quilt is less than half the price of PBK’s Emily Twin Quilt.

Interesting! Do they have the same thread count? :)

On the one hand, I often feel like PB is a bit pricey. On the other hand, is there anyone out there who can vouch for equal quality in the JC Penney product?

I can’t tell you the thread count on the two bedspreads that are featured. However, I can tell you, as the mother of daughters who are now 35 and 36 years old, that I discovered J.C. Penney’s children’s department my girls were just tots and the quality was very good. Now that I am a grandmother, I’ve purchased adorable baby and toddler items that are also very good. The quality may not be equal in some cases, but you can find many reasonably priced items that are soft to the touch and will definitely hold up for the one or two years a child may use them before they are outgrown. I confess that I do splurge on the P.B. items that are irresistable, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Yes, we had the same realization on the “Pottery Barn knock-offs” when we re-did our 4 year old daughter’s room. We actually found a very similar bedding set to the two you have pictured here at the Sears children’s website (searsroomforkids.com) and too, it was a fraction of the price. She has the Rachel’s Garden quilt, shams, etc and I think it is absolutely adorable (so does our daughter!) And, as for the quality comparison, I can say that we did splurge and purchase the bedding for our 6 month old son’s room at PB Kids (okay, truth is we had a gift card and the entire set was on clearance!)…but the “quality” is different, not necessarily better…the quilt from PB is a more traditional “quilted quilt” (you know what I mean, right?) whereas the quilt from Sears is more like a comforter. But, as Phyllis noted, they are both super soft to the touch and stand up to the same wear-and-tear, especially given that they will out-grow them sooner rather than later anyway!
