I bought a glass straw at glassstraws.com. I am so pleased with this straw, the top is finished very nice. I bought the 8 inch and I am going to order the 10 inch for my taller glasses. My husband made me a holder from bamboo that we had growing in back yard. They sell a cleaning brush for $5.00 It is the best. Try the glass and you will never go back to plastic. I want to try the stainless, but not sure if it would hurt my teeth.

I found the straws on the Crate&Barrel website. Set of six for $4.95. I got tired of searching Walmarts for these straws. I love them! Ruth

I believe that I saw something similar for sale at Starbuck's but I am so leary of the materials used (acrylic is a plastic) and the possibility of toxins leaching into beverages.

My suggested solution is that you check the www.glassdharma.com website for more information about using glass instead of plastic. The type of glass they use is very strong and they even provide a manufacturer's lifetime guarantee against breakage. They recomend you just put them in the dishwasher! From what I have been reading, the plastics break down with each dishwasher cleaning and the plastic can leach even higher levels of BPA. Not so with the borosilicate glass!

I carry my glass straws with me everywhere and keep a glassful of glass straws out on the counter for my family and guests. They are beautiful!

About 2 years ago, I too decided that we had to do something about the straw usage in my home. I found some pretty colored acrylic straws at Wal-Mart; a package of 8 was about $2. These straws are the same size as the plastic drinking straws. They're wonderful. But, guests have fallen in love with them also, and I'm down to just a few. I can not find them any more. Of course, Wal-Mart has no idea what I'm talking about. Does anyone know where I can find more? Thanks
