My aunt gave Taro Gomi’s Everyone Poops book to my son at a critical juncture in his potty-training journey. This became his “potty book” immediately, and he insisted on reading it at each bathroom visit. Something about reading about other people and animals pooping just clicked. Even when my husband and I returned from our first kid-free trip to find he had gone on a potty strike, an incentive of his Everyone Poops book and a cup of prune juice was all it took to get him out of the pull-ups and back on the pot!

Scribbles and Doodles, also by Gomi, remind me a lot of a book I had when I was a kid, the Anti-Coloring book. They offer great thought-starters, but don’t provide the lines to color in.
