Two days after Christmas
Today was the first day the Phoenix metro light rail trains officially opened to the public. And we were among the many to take a ride. We met up with several friends and walked over to the closest station to climb aboard. The trains were super modern looking, and I have to say that as we cruised smoothly down Central Avenue, it felt like we were on vacation in a real urban city.
I was a little nervous the crowds would be too much to handle on the first day — especially wrangling lots of kids who weren’t used to riding trains. But everyone was so courteous and nice to each other, it was very sweet to see. When we first got on, a teenager gave up his seat for my son and his preschool friends to sit down. And every time I would drop a hat or a jacket, someone was right there to scoop it up and hand it to me.
It was a cold, sunny and fun morning that completely exhausted the kids. Now they’re napping and the smell of banana bread is filling the house. I hope you are all having a wonderful post-Christmas weekend too.

Sorry I’m late responding to this post, sis. Sounded like a wonderful day indeed…can’t wait to ride the trains when I come home! And I wish the Tokyo folks would give up their seats as readily as that nice boy did in Phoenix for you.
