When my mom was going through treatment for breast cancer, her cousin gave her an engraved One Day at a Time bracelet like this one. It was a daily reminder to live in the moment, and take each day as it came. My mom reminded me of this bracelet the other day, and said she […]

So maybe this is the only peanut butter chocolate chip cookie recipe I’ve ever made, but I do think it’s the best. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside — and best of all, I LOVE that the recipe says to use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to scoop out the dough. […]

I love this Halloween idea from Martha. It’s perfect for us snow-deprived desert-dwellers, who don’t get to experience the joy of snowman-building. Although I’m not even sure we can pull this one off, since our neighbors just told us they had a family of wild javelinas make a meal of the pumpkin on their doorstep!

I’m in the market for some new pj’s, and these caught my eye. Don’t they look so soft and cozy? I love the neckline and diagonal cut of the ankle opening. I actually tore this page out of the catalog last night and told my 4 year old to tell Daddy that Mommy might like […]

This looks like it came from the pages of a Martha Stewart magazine, doesn’t it? Nope. I found it on a new blog (well, new to me) I stumbled on this weekend called Domestifluff. Tune in this week, and Kristen, the crafter who writes Domestifluff, will share her secrets on how to make all the […]

My friend Ashleigh told me about what I call “fruit squeezers” a few years ago, when she discovered them at Trader Joe’s. We’ve been buying the Trader Joe’s brand of these squeezable pouches of applesauce since then, and they’re perfect to pack in the kids’ lunchboxes. I was getting a little tired of the same […]

Become who you are. I’m still working on this (aren’t we all?) There’s a great collection of articles on this same topic in this month’s Oprah magazine. It’s called “Everyone has a calling. What’s yours?” I especially love Martha Beck’s suggestion to “Grab a pen and make a list of every time you remember being […]

Packing lunches is always a mad rush in the morning, but my daughter spotted some spooky sandwich cutout ideas in this month’s Family Fun Magazine and has been asking me to pack one in her lunchbox. SO, the photo above is my attempt at a skeleton PBJ. Not terrible, eh? Here was the inspiration from […]

Phoenix got a new museum this summer — and what a museum! My parents took the kids to the new Musical Instrument Museum shortly after it opened, and they were pleasantly surprised at how much the kids loved it. They jokingly asked them if they liked it more than Disneyland – and they said they […]

I tore this Quick Bread in a Jar recipe out of Sunset magazine a while back, and put it in my recipe/ideas/mishmash binder. I haven’t made these yet, but I think it’s a great idea for a thoughtful holiday gift. (Thinking about the holidays takes my mind off the 100+ degree weather.) You basically get […]
